Jess Ruiz-García
PhD Student
BSc in Biology and MSc in Marine Conservation. Supported by the FPU grant on his PhD, titled “Assessing the status of the Mediterranean chondrichthyan populations through fisheries research: risks and priority actions” and supported by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition under the project ECEME in collaboration with the ICM-CSIC and the NGO Catsharks. As an early-career researcher, he has been involved in both national and international projects and research campaigns in New Zealand, Australia and the Philippines entailing chondrichthyan (sharks, rays and chimaeras) research.
His main research interests focus on chondrichthyans and fisheries, including the use of new technologies and programming to unravel habitat preferences, population status, capture impacts and the effect of human pressures on marine ecosystems.
