Mara d’Arán Segovia Trufero

PhD Student

Mara holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Córdoba and an MSc in Biodiversity from the University of Valencia. Before her PhD, she worked as a Research Technician at several research institutions, gaining experience in marine ecosystems, fisheries, and aquatic conservation.

Her interest in animal conservation has guided her scientific career, with a particular soft spot for sharks, rays, and chimaeras. This passion stems from the challenges faced by these often misunderstood species, including threatened status, increasing anthropogenic pressures, and limited public awareness. Framed within the DINACON project, her PhD combines scientific research and science communication to develop practical tools supporting evidence-based marine conservation and management.
