Paola Gabasa
PhD Student
She holds a BSc in Biology and a MSc in Marine Biology from the University of Vigo, where she graduated with honors. She concluded her undergraduate studies in the United States, where she was able to extend and deepen her knowledge in tropical marine ecosystems. As part of her master’s degree, she completed an internship at a Portuguese biodiversity research center, where she contributed to the study of the movement ecology of satellite-tracked sharks.
While she has a comprehensive marine biology background, her emphasis is on shark biology and conservation. Her current research interests focus on the application of new technologies to the study of shark movement ecology and the footprint of fisheries. Supported by a predoctoral grant from the Spanish Government, she is currently working on her thesis on the movement ecology of pelagic sharks in the Western Mediterranean and its relationship with fishing activity.
