Leia studied Environmental Sciences and then specialised in a Master’s degree in Biodiversity. During her time in academia, she got interested in marine megafauna and took part in projects in places like the Azores, Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and the Balearic Islands.
Her research mainly focuses on studying how seabirds move around and how they interact with ships at sea, especially fishing boats. To do this, she became skilled in using new tracking technologies and R language.
